Being stuck in the nails on the chalkboard non-photography hot spot of the world... Denver... and not wanting to shoot weddings and such; I have a day job. Now this day job put me right at the edge of all the DNC action. Honesty, there wasn't too much action. Anyway, last Thursday there were people walking around LoDo (between Coors Field and the DNC Pepsi Center) and I was waiting at a corner when to my left I start to hear crying. I turn to look and see a girl in her mid 20s starting to sob uncontrollably. I ask her if there was anything I could do or if she needed help. She says "no, thank you" sits down and starts to call someone on her phone. As she starts talking on the phone I walk away to give her space but keep within eye's distance to see if I could still help... she gets off the phone and starts to cry even harder. It's ripping my heart out hearing her like that.
Then I start to notice... people... walking around... walking by her... looking down their nose and then looking away. One guy on a cell phone walked in front of her and started to talk louder because he couldn't hear his precious call. A group of seven with their buttons and logos on their t-shirts looked at her and just walked by hoping no one in the group would stop. It's not my responsibility... she doesn't matter... how dare she make so much noise when I'm on the phone... I just don't want to get involved...
Would you stop to see if you could help someone... would you? Would you really?
